Robert Calonico joined the Danville Community Band the fall season of 2007 as the new Associate Conductor and assumed the Music Director and Conductor role this past .
He is the Director of Bands at the University of California, Berkeley where his duties include directing and arranging for the Cal Marching Band and conducting the University Wind Ensemble. He is a graduate of St Mary's College High School in Berkeley and holds a B.A. in music from UC Berkeley. He earned his teaching credential and a M.A. in clarinet performance from California State University, Hayward.
Prior to his appointment at U. C. Berkeley, Mr. Calonico held faculty positions at Dominican College and Terra Linda High School in San Rafael, California. With thirty-five years of professional experience, he has performed with the Oakland East Bay Symphony, Oakland Ballet, California Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Berkeley Repertory Theater, many San Francisco based Broadway show productions including Phantom of the Opera and West Side Story, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Maria Muldaur, James Brown, Tex Beneke and Harry James Orchestras among others. Mr. Calonico currently serves as Bay Section President for the California Music Educators Association.

Dr. Lawrence E. Anderson, Director of Bands and Supervisor of Teacher Education in Music, Emeritus, University of California, Davis, is a native of Lafayette, CA. He is a graduate of Acalanes High School where he was an active band member and served as Drum Major his senior year. It was here that his affiliation with, and affection for bands and wind music began.
He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of the California Marching Band and the University Concert Band. His senior year he was elected Student Director of the Marching Band. He also directed the Cal Alumni Band for several years.
Dr. Anderson has been a lifelong music educator and band director. He earned a B.A. at the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. at San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.
He began his career as Director of Music at Miramonte High School in Orinda. He then served as a counselor at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord and later as Supervisor of Music Education at Sonoma State University. He presently is a Student Teacher Supervisor for Chapman University in Walnut Creek.
His articles have been published in numerous professional journals including the Music Educator’s Journal, the Journal of Band Research and the Journal of Research in Music Education. He also writes a monthly column, “Conductor’s Corner,” for the Valley Citizen magazine. He serves as adjudicator, clinician, consultant and guest conductor for numerous festivals, conferences and honor bands.
Dr. Anderson is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, California Music Educators Association and Phi Delta Kappa, a national organization dedicated to research, leadership and service to education. He plays clarinet in the Community Presbyterian Church Orchestra.
He conceived and began the Danville Community Band in September 2001 after more than a year of planning. Under the direction of Dr. Anderson, the band has grown to become the largest community band in the Bay Area. The Band is a member of the Association of Concert Bands of America.
Dr. Anderson lives in Danville, California with his wife Jan.
